Understanding Antiaging

In order to understand anti-ageing and achieve the results shown, we need to understand what makes us look older, as it is by reversing this process that a natural result is achieved.

As we age a series of changes occur to our faces and hands; our skin loses a thin layer of fat just beneath the surface and decreases in elasticity giving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

The Inverting Triangle:

Other processes are also important in making our faces look older; young faces have more volume across the forehead and cheeks but as we age, loss of fat just beneath the surface of the skin contributes to the skin loosing its tight youthful appearance. As more volume is lost the skin moves downward and inward towards the middle and lower 1/3 of the face, resulting in loss of cheek volume and folds appearing running from the nose to the mouth and so called “marionette lines” and jowls. With time our faces change from an upside down triangle (standing on its tip) to a triangle on its base. As we get older our skin pore size also increases and we may experience patches of increased pigmentation.

There are many treatments available addressing each of these issues and working on different layers of the skin and muscle.

Rejuvenation/aesthetics is both an art and a science. Not only is an understanding of the medicines and techniques available and how to use them safely imperative, but also experience and a creative/artistic element necessary in order to restore balance and create a natural effect.

By combining therapies and working at different depths of the skin, volume can be replaced, lines and wrinkles relaxed and skin can be resurfaced. As can be seen, totally natural effect can be achieved and no one need know you have had any interventions done at all.

The results shown took a number of treatments over some months.

Dr Sophie’s Clients include politicians and models, some of them travelling extensively to be sure to get completely natural results so that none will know their secret.

The two most popular treatments people have are:

Botox®/Anti wrinkle Injections: Commonly known as “Botox®”, this is a prescription-only drug and must be prescribed, usually by a doctor/dentist. Effects begin a few days after treatment and it takes up to 2 weeks to see maximum effect, end results will vary between different practitioners. Botox® works by relaxing the muscles underneath the skin which cause lines/wrinkles. It also can be used to lift and shape eyebrows, soften jawline, reduce jowls and enhance lips. The advantage of this treatment is that it is relatively quick; taking less than an hour, and there is rarely any sign you’ve had any treatment, you can go back to work straight after, that’s why it often termed the “lunch time face lift”. Dermal Fillers/”Fillers”: Dermal Fillers or more commonly called “Fillers”, are generally made from a sugar-like substance called Hyaluronic acid, Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in healthy skin, as well as your eyeballs and joints. Dermal Fillers/Filler revolumises the skin and have been clinically proven to increase collagen production in the long-term.

When inserted into the skin, lines and wrinkles are lifted out and the effect of fillers can be seen immediately. They can be used to soften lines and wrinkles, shape noses/lips, add volume to cheeks and plump out tired looking skin.

Like most medical treatments visual outcomes will vary between practitioners, which is why Dr Sophie always carries out consultations and treatments personally. The pictures on this website show the dramatic improvements that can be made in just one consultation with “Fillers”. Read more…
